Aug. 11, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The U. S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday that both the Kansas men’s and women’s track & field teams have achieved All-Academic team status for the 2011 season. The Jayhawks earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better during the past academic year. The Big 12 Conference placed 11 teams on the women’s side and eight squads on the men’s side of the list, which led all leagues.

Last week, the USTFCCCA named eight Jayhawks to All-Academic individual lists for their top performances on the field as well as in the classroom. The four KU men named to list were seniors Jordan Scott and Cooper Merrill, sophomore Mason Finley and freshman Dalen Fink, all of whom recorded GPAs of 3.25 or higher. Four Jayhawks women also garnered All-Academic honors with each earning GPAs of at least 3.50. Included on the women’s list were seniors Julia Cummings and Jaci Perryman, junior Rebeka Stowe and sophomore Heather Bergmann.
