BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –

Four members of the University of Kansas tennis team will participate in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Summer Championships this Saturday at the Indiana University Varsity Tennis Center in Bloomington, Ind.

Senior Christine Skoda, junior Brittany Brown and sophomores Elizaveta Avdeeva and Lauren Hommell qualified after successful runs at the ITA Summer Circuit. Avdeeva placed second at the tournament hosted by KU in late July.

The ITA National Summer Championships include men’s and women’s singles and doubles and mixed doubles. The Summer Circuit provides college tennis players the opportunity to compete in organized events virtually year round. It is made up of six regional circuits (East, Southeast, Midwest, Central, Southwest and West) and each region consists of four consecutive tournaments played during the month of July, leading up to the ITA National Summer Championships.

The singles and doubles champions from the ITA National Summer Championships earn wild cards into the first national tournaments of the 2005-06 collegiate tennis season – the Polo Ralph Lauren Men’s All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., and Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., October 6-9 (the finalists earn wild cards into the qualifying tournaments).
