Let There Be Turf: Baseball Project Nears Completion

Aug. 12, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Hoglund Ballpark’s facelift is nearly complete as the construction crew has begun the process of installing the artificial playing surface at the park. The project began in early June and is on target for a September completion date.

AstroTurfUSA is installing its Gameday 3D playing surface, which is the official turf of Major League Baseball.

Kansas head coach Ritch Price believes that the turf will enhance his team’s ability to practice longer into the fall as well as earlier in the spring.

The project, which is completely funded by donations to the baseball program, will cost approximately $1.2 million when completed. KU will become the fourth team in the Big 12 to play its home games on artificial turf, joining Texas, Texas Tech and Kansas State.
