Aug. 13, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s soccer will see match action for the first time in 2010 Sunday, when the Jayhawks host Creighton in an exhibition match Sunday afternoon.

Sunday will also feature KU’s first-ever World Cup Day. Fans are encouraged to bring jerseys and flags of their favorite countries or teams as they cheer on Jayhawks. Admission is free and kickoff is slated for 1 p.m., at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.

Sunday’s match against the Jays will be one of 10 played this season at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. KU’s home slate includes preseason Big 12 favorite Texas A&M and defending champ Oklahoma State.

KU boasts a squad heavy on veterans, returning 21 letterwinners and eight starters. Both teams return their top scorers, with KU forward Emily Cressy (12 goals, three assists) squaring off against her Creighton counterpart Brittany Neumann (seven goals, six assists).

Senior defenders Lauren Jackson and Geneva Magness will aid redshirt junior Kat Liebetrau between the pipes. Liebetrau recorded 47 saves and a 1.54 goals against average mark in 14 games last season.

Head coach Mark Francis also returns for his 12th season in crimson and blue.

The regular season will kick Friday, Aug. 27, with the Jayhawks hosting Eastern Kentucky.
