Aug. 13, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas’ cross country team is set to report Sunday, August 15 to kick off the 2010 season. Sunday afternoon a team meeting will be held and on Monday the student-athletes will complete their physicals.

Practice will officially start on Tuesday when the team will be thrown right into a two-a-day practice schedule under the direction of Head Coach Stanley Redwine, who is his 11th season at Kansas.

“The first couple weeks of practice are pretty tough,” Redwine said. “It will be two-a-days. I am not trying to kill them by any means because the season gets really long. We will be teaching the newcomers to understand our ways.”

On the women’s side, the 2010 squad welcomes back 15 familiar faces with six newcomers rounding out the roster.

The highlighted returners include senior Amanda Miller, junior Rebeka Stowe and junior Kara Windisch.

The men’s squad boasts eight returners and 12 roster additions. The Jayhawks are looking to rebuild this season under the leadership of juniors Donny Wasinger and Austin Bussing and senior Nick Caprario as well as emerging sophomore Josh Baden.

The Jayhawk cross country team will open its season at Rim Rock Farm with the Bob Timmons Classic on Sept. 4 at 9 a.m.
