Williams Fund Hosts Fun, Football & Ice Cream Night

Aug. 14, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Members of the Williams’ Educational Fund were invited to Saturday’s Football Scrimmage at Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium for Fun, Football & Ice Cream Night. Fans got their first look at the 2010 edition of the Jayhawks as well as attend an ice cream social which was put on by Kansas Athletics.

Roughly 600 people attended the event which also featured free ice cream served by KU coaches in the south end zone, as well as an inflatable fun zone for the kids.

“Our first ice cream social was a huge success and a great opportunity to reach out to our donors and thank them for all they do for Kansas Athletics,” said Special Events Coordinator Sammie Nakama, who organized the Fun, Football & Ice Cream Night.

Members of the Kansas football team also doled out high-fives as they entered and exited the field for the scrimmage, while several stuck around to sign autographs afterwards.

“I’d like to thank members of the Williams Fund who came out to support us tonight,” Kansas Head Coach Turner Gill said. “We appreciate all that they do for us throughout the year. It’s great to see their enthusiasm for Jayhawk football as we get ready for the upcoming year.”

Fans will have other chances to meet with the Jayhawks next weekend during two events to celebrate “Kick Off Weekend”.

On Friday, Aug. 20, Kansas football hosts the annual Kickoff Rally in Prairie Village, Kan. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Corinth Square parking lot at 83rd and Mission, where Coach Gill is scheduled to speak along with former KU quarterback Todd Reesing, Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Kurtis Townsend and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Bonnie Henrickson.

The kickoff weekend continues in Lawrence on Sunday, Aug. 22, as the Kansas Football team holds Fan Appreciation Day during a team practice in Memorial Stadium. Practice will begin at 5 p.m. and admission is free. Following the workout, the entire team will be available for autographs.
