LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer was downed by a tough Creighton team in an exhibition match, Sunday afternoon at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex, falling 3-0 to the Blue Jays.

In KU’s first match action of 2010, Whitney Berry led the Jayhawks with five shots, one on goal, and Kortney Clifton and Madi Hillis each had two shots with Hillis recording the only other on-goal shot for Kansas.

In her first match as a Jayhawk, freshman goal keeper Kaitlyn Stroud recorded a pair of saves and allowed two goals. Kat Liebetrau, who started the game between the pipes, allowed one goal.

The Jays came out swinging right from the start, aggressively tallying eight fouls in the first half. The Jayhawks kept the ball on their side of the field throughout much of the first half and held the advantage until 37 minutes in when Lauren Cingoranelli netted one in the top right corner.

The score remained 1-0 until a costly turnover in the KU zone resulted in a Brittany Neumann goal. A few minutes later, Andrea Zuniga tapped in a cross to score the final goal.

With only a few minutes remaining, Berry had an opportunity to cut Jays’ lead but goal keeper Katie Jo Swanson made a diving save out of the box.

Training camp will now continue for the Jayhawks until Aug. 27, when KU opens the season against Eastern Kentucky.
