KU's Biere Named To Mackey Award Watch List

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas junior Tim Biere was named to the 2010 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List it was announced Monday. The award, named after NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey, is given annually to the nation’s top tight end.

Biere is one of 32 players on the list. The 6-4, 260-pound junior from Omaha, Neb. is expected to play a key role this season. Biere has been the team’s top tight end the last two seasons in an offense which mainly used four wide receivers.

As a true freshman in 2008 he caught six passes for 65 yards. Last year as a sophomore he pulled in 14 balls for 183 yards in 10 games. In 2009 he caught at least one pass in eight of the 10 games he participated in. Against Iowa State he had three receptions for 53 yards.

He also had three catches against Texas and ended the season with two catches for 49 yards, including a career-long 33-yarder against Missouri.

Biere was an Academic All-Big 12 selection last season while majoring in marketing with a political science minor.
