Soccer Picked Fourth in Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll

Lawrence, Kan. – The University of Kansas soccer team was picked to finish fourth in the Big 12 preseason coaches poll released by the league office on Thursday. The reigning Big 12 Champions return five starters and 15 letterwinners off last years team that finished a school-best 18-5.

Texas A&M, the 2004 Big 12 co-Champion, edged out Nebraska by one vote for first place. The Aggies and Cornhuskers both received five first place votes. Texas received one first place vote and finished third with 81 points, seven ahead of the Jayhawks. Colorado (5th), Missouri (6th), Oklahoma State (7th), Oklahoma (8th), Iowa State (9th), Baylor (10th) and Texas Tech (11th) rounded out the rest of the poll.

Kansas, ranked No. 23 in the NSCAA/adidas preseason poll, will begin its season with a home exhibition match this Saturday against Drake. The Bulldogs won the regular season Missouri Valley Conference title last season and finished 13-5-3 overall. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
