Aug. 18, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer will look for its first 2-0 start since the 2009 season when the Jayhawks host Northwestern at 1 p.m., Sunday at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.

Fans in attendance Sunday can receive root beer floats for $1 at the concession stand while supplies last during the match. Schedule magnets will also be available to fans at the marketing table as they enter the facility. Members of the Kansas soccer team will be made available for autographs following the match.

Kansas is coming off a 2-1 overtime victory over UC Santa Barbara in its season opener Friday. Freshman Ashley Williams tallied the game-winning goal in the 97th minute, while junior Caroline Kastor got KU on the scoreboard early in the second half.

KU leads the all-time series with Northwestern, 3-0, with two wins in Evanston, Ill. Most recently, the Jayhawks knocked off the then-No. 14 Wildcats, 2-1, on Sept. 3, 2010. KU defeated Northwestern in Lawrence during the 2003 season, earning a 4-1 victory on Aug. 29.

The Jayhawks return 10 starters from last year’s squad, which finished 11-9-1 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
