Kansas Football Enjoys KU Day at the K

081912aaa_726_6435615.jpegLAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football took a day away from the practice fields and headed to Kansas City for KU Day at the K, a day for Jayhawk fans at Kaufmann Stadium hosted by the Kansas City Royals. Head coach Charlie Weisand the entire Kansas football team participated in the outing, as the Royals defeated the White Sox, 5-2, on sunny Sunday afternoon.

The Jayhawks boarded busses and made the hour drive to Kaufmann Stadium, where they were hosted by the Royals in the Hall of Fame suite. A portion of players, along with Weis, signed autographs for 45 minutes, before making their way to the suites for the game.

The KU football travel party had the opportunity to dine on a variety of ball park entrees and took in the game from seats in left field. The day was a complete success as the home team Royals scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the exciting 5-2 victory.

Kansas opens the 2012 season, its first under Weis, with a home contest versus South Dakota State on Saturday, Sept. 1, Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m., at Memorial Stadium. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Kansas Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-34-HAWKS or at KUAthletics.com.
