Volleyball Alumni Scrimmage Set For Saturday

Aug. 21, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Fans will have the opportunity to preview the 2008 Kansas volleyball team when the Jayhawks open the season with a scrimmage against KU alumni Saturday evening at 7 p.m. Admission to the event at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center is free.

The Jayhawks return 11 veterans, including six starters, and add four talented newcomers to the 2008 roster. Returning starters include seniors Savannah Noyes and Natalie Uhart, junior Katie Martincich and sophomores Jenna Kaiser, Karina Garlington and Melissa Manda.

Head coach Ray Bechard enters his 11th season with the Jayhawks as the program’s all-time winningest coach. He has taken KU to three NCAA appearances (2003-05) and has brought renewed interest in the Jayhawk program as KU volleyball annually ranks in the nation’s top 50 attendance leaders.

Saturday’s alumni roster will include KU standouts such as Nancy Bell (1997-00), Emily Brown (2004-07), Paula Caten (2004-05), Jill Dorsey (2001-04), Danielle Geronymo (1999-2000), Abbie Jacobsen (2000-03), Molly Lamere (1998-01), Molly Scavuzzo (2000-02), Ashley Michaels (2001-04) and Dani Wittman (2003-06).

Due to construction, fans must enter through the south side of the Horejsi Center. Parking is available in the lots adjacent to Hoglund Ballpark. Fans should access these parking lots by using Naismith Drive and then going west on Oliver Hall Drive.

Any additional alumni wishing to participate in the scrimmage are invited to contact KU assistant coach Christi Posey (785-864-7959).
