Woodland Fires 70 At U.S. Amateur

ARDMORE, Pa. –

University of Kansas junior golfer Gary Woodland shot an opening round 70 (E) at the 105th U.S. Amateur Championship at the Philadelphia Country Club on Monday.

Woodland played the front nine at one under par (34) including an eagle at the 416 yard par 4 ninth hole. Bogeys at holes seven and 17 dropped him back to even par.

The tournament boasts a field of 312 players trying to qualify for match play. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to its final 64 and will be set up in bracket format for match play.
