Head Coach Mark Francis

On how the team came out in the second half:

“First of all, we came in the first half absolutely on fire. We came out revved up and ready to play. Then, for whatever reason they started getting into a rhythm and starting playing better and they were beating us to seemingly every ball. The last 30 minutes of the first half we weren’t looking very good. I talked to (Associate Head Coach) Kelly (Miller) and he talked to them at half time about wanting it more because I felt we took our foot off the gas a little bit. In the second half our mentality was completely different and I thought we were consistent with that mentality and not backing off. Even after we scored the third goal we kept going after it and that is one thing I told the players I wanted them to do. When a team goes down we can’t back down and let our foot off the gas. In the second half I thought the girls did a very good job of that. Our bench did a really good job of giving us good minutes today without a drop off in play.”

On freshman forwards Kortney Clifton and Emily Cressy recording points in the first game of the season:

“It was huge. Kortney, on the one goal, did a great job of getting up and flicking it on and then Emily took her goal very well. She also got a nice assist on another goal. It is just good for freshmen to get on the board as an attacking player because it really takes the pressure off. It is a good start for both of them and we just look for them to continue to get better.”

On Emily Cressy’s mentality:

“Being in the right place at the right time is just a knack. It is hard to teach people that and obviously Emily just has it. Caroline Smith had it. When you are in the right place at the right time and the opportunities arise, you can execute and finish them. Obviously Emily did that for us today.”
