Humphreys Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

DALLAS – University of Kansas freshman pitcher Kassie Humphreys was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for her performance in the circle in shutouts over No. 12 Nebraska and Texas, the league office announced Tuesday. The honor goes to Humphreys for the first time over her career.
The Glendale, Ariz., righthander’s shutout at Nebraska Wednesday was her second of the season and third win over a ranked opponent in her rookie campaign. Humphreys (14-10) posted a 0.00 ERA and struck out 12 in 12.1 innings of work while holding opponent batters to a .171 average last week. In two games, Humphreys allowed one extra-base hit (a double) for a two-game total of seven. On the season, Humphreys has a team-leading 1.50 ERA
Oklahoma catcher Heather Scaglione is the Big 12 Softball Player of the Week for a conference season record five times. Last week, the senior hit .500 in three games with a .700 on-base percentage in earning the honor.
Humphreys and the Jayhawks will wrap up regular season action May 8-9 with a series against Iowa State. KU will host the Cyclones at 2 p.m. Saturday and at 1 p.m. Sunday for Senior Day.
