'Hawks Named Academic All-District

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Juniors Kim Clark and Megan Manthe were named to the CoSIDA academic all-district VII Women’s Track/Cross Country team today.

Clark, who maintained a 4.0 grade point average in biochemistry, qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:07.13 at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Elkhorn, Neb. native, received all-Big 12 honors after posting a second place finish in the 600-yard run at the Big 12 Indoor Championships. Clark was named to the CoSIDA academic all-district VII team in 2003 and was also a 2003 second-team CoSIDA academic all-American.

Manthe, who also maintained a 4.0 grade point average in biochemistry, qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in the 1500-meter run with a season-best time of 4:28.93 at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships. She recorded a 17th place finish at the Midwest Regional cross country championships and earned all-Big 12 honors for her performance in the mile run at the Big 12 Indoor Championships. The Anoka, Minn. native, earned first-team academic all-Big 12 honors in cross country and track this season and was selected to the second-team CoSIDA academic all-district VII team in 2003.

The season is still alive for three Kansas track and field athletes. Senior Laura Lavoie (1500-meter run), junior Brooklyn Hann (triple jump) and sophomore Benson Chesang (5000-meter run) will represent the Jayhawks at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 9-12 in Austin, Texas.
