Baseball Names 14 Jayhawk Scholars

LAWRENCE, Kan. – University of Kansas baseball head coach Ritch Price and Glenn Quick, Director of Degree and Career Counseling, released the names of 14 players on the 2004 Spring Jayhawk Scholar List.

Seniors Ryan Baty, Matt Tribble and Chris Smart along with juniors Sean Richardson, Clint Schambach, Andy Scholl, J.C. Sibley and Mike Zagurski headlined the second largest list ever by a Kansas baseball team.

Also receiving honors for the 2004 semester were sophomores Matt Baty and Chris Jones as well as freshmen Derek Bailey, Matt Berner, Matt Lane and Eric Snowden.

“I am extremely thrilled with the efforts these 14 individuals put forth during the 2004 spring semester,” Price said. “I also want to congratulate Glenn Quick for the wonderful job he did in helping all of these student-athletes especially during the season.”

To qualify for the Jayhawk Scholar List student-athletes must receive a 3.00 GPA or higher during the spring 2004 semester.

Kansas (31-31-1) finished the 2004 season by sweeping Kansas State in a three-game series. It was the first conference series sweep since 1999 and the first under head coach Ritch Price.
