June 13, 2004
LAWRENCE, Kan. – KU sophomore Benson Chesang finished 19th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:59.71 as the Jayhawks wrapped up competition at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Junior Brooklyn Hann posted a 26th place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 39-08.50 on Friday. In Thursday’s action, senior Laura Lavoie finished 17th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:24.36, while the women’s 4×400-meter relay team of Duchess Williams, Octavia Garrett, Kim Clark and Hann finished 20th overall with a time of 3:40.72.
“I think that Laura (Lavoie) and the 4×400-meter relay team ran average times, but this is not an average meet,” said head coach Stanley Redwine. “I feel bad for our seniors (Lavoie and Williams), but everyone else is returning and the experience should give them an advantage next year.”
