Aug. 19, 2004

Lawrence, Kan. – Kansas head track and field coach Stanley Redwine announced the hiring of Tom Hays as an assistant coach Wednesday. Hays, who will be the vertical jumps coach for the Jayhawks, is a familiar face to the KU track program. Hays competed for the Jayhawks in the mid-80s before receiving his degree in Education in 1989.

“We are excited to have Tom on our staff,” Redwine said. “He brings a wealth of experience to the Kansas track program.”

Hays spent last season as an assistant at Johnson County Community College. At JCCC, he was in charge of coaching and recruiting all field events. Prior to Johnson County, Hays spent six years as an assistant at the University of Arizona and seven years at Wichita State. In the 1989-90 season, Hays was an assistant at Nevada-Reno.
