Children, Fans Enjoy Evening with Football Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Kansas football team treated fans and children to an evening of autographs, promotions and a glimpse of the upcoming season at the annual fan appreciation day at Memorial Stadium. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

After concluding practice, Head Coach Mark Mangino addressed the crowd of 3,500, speaking highly of the fan’s support and enthusiasm for the Jayhawks.

“Memorial Stadium is gaining a reputation as being one of the toughest places to play in the Big 12 Conference,” Mangino said. “That is due to the support of our fans.”

Team captains, senior David Ochoa, junior Derek Fine, junior James McClinton and sophomore Mike Rivera, also spoke to the crowd in preparation for the Jayhawks’ opening game on Sept. 2 against NorthwesternState.

Afterwards, children were invited onto the field to meet their favorite Jayhawks and get autographs.

Including the Sept. 2 home opener against Northwestern State, KU will play seven games at Memorial Stadium, including conference tilts against Kansas State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Colorado. Public season tickets are $225. Faculty/staff season tickets are $180 and recent graduate packages are $150 (2004-06 graduation date). Family-Zone packages are also available for $300. The Family -Zone, located in the North Bowl, includes two adult and two youth general admission tickets. Fans can purchase their 2006 tickets online or by contacting the ticket office at 800-34-HAWKS.
