Kansas Soccer to Host Intersquad Scrimmage

Aug. 23, 2007

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas soccer team will wrap up their preseason with an intersquad scrimmage on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. The Jayhawks will use the scrimmage as a final tune up before the team opens the regular season on Aug. 31 against the University of Hawaii.

The Jayhawks were ranked 26th in the Soccer Buzz national preseason poll and fifth in the Big 12 coaches’ poll, which were both released last week. KU returns nine starters and 18 letterwinners from last year’s squad, which finished 11-7-1 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The 18 returning players are joined by 11 newcomers, including a 10-person freshman class, which was ranked as the fifth-best recruiting class in the region by Soccer Buzz.

KU is looking to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004, when the team won the Big 12 regular season title.

Admission to Saturday’s scrimmage is free of charge.
