Former Jayhawk Metcalf Enjoys Historic Night in Baltimore

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Former University of Kansas baseball standout Travis Metcalf collected eight RBIs for the Texas Rangers in a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday evening. Metcalf, who played at KU from 2002-04, hit a pinch hit grand slam as part of Texas’ 10-run eighth inning, which saw the Rangers drop 30 runs on the Orioles.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
In the second game, the Rangers’ third baseman recorded a two-run double and an RBI single as well as a sac fly to give him his eighth RBI of the day.
“”It was AMAZING in capital letters,” Metcalf told the Associated Press. “It was great to be a part of.”
The Wamago, Kan., native holds the KU single-season and career records for home runs. In three seasons (2002-04) with the Jayhawks, Metcalf hit .284 with 141 hits and 29 home runs.
