Aug. 23, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas softball head coach Megan Smith welcomed back her team with a dinner and some friendly competition Friday evening. After noshing on barbeque, the team held its first Rock Chalk Team competition of the 2010-11 season.

Friday night’s challenge had the Rock Chalk Teams create a team slogan. The Warhawks won the event to earn the first Rock Chalk point of the year. Team Warhawk consists of senior Brittany Hile, junior Kelsey Alsdorf, sophomore Rosie Hull and freshman Kendra Cullum.

The Rock Chalk Team Olympics is an event organized by second-year head softball coach Megan Smith and is designed to encourage competitiveness, team cohesiveness and bonding. The Jayhawk softball team is broken up into four teams- Phog, Crimson Crusade, Wheaties and Warhawks- which compete against each other throughout the year for the opportunity to win challenges and earn points. Not limited to softball skills, the Rock Chalk Team Olympics test the Jayhawks in a variety of areas including community service, academics and in the weight room to name a few.
