Men's Golf Finish Season 16th At NCAA Central Regional

May 22, 2004

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Kansas men’s golf team shot a three-round total of 926 to place 16th in the 27-team 2004 NCAA Central Regional, Saturday, at the 7,259 yard, par-72 Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.

“Today was a tough day for us,” head coach Ross Randall said. “The course played hard once again. We started out strong, but didn’t finish strong.”

Kentucky won the team championship with a three-round total of 882. Second place went to Oklahoma State with an 893 total, followed by Oklahoma (896) in third and Texas A&M (899) in fourth place.

Junior Andrew Price (Lake Forest, Ill.) shot a 76 in his final round and finished in a tie for 45th with a three-round 230 total. Freshman Gary Woodland (Berryton, Kan.) carded a 77 in the final round for a 232 three-round total and finished tied for 60th. Senior Tyler Hall (Wayne, N.J.) finished his final tournament as a Jayhawk tied for 66th after he shot a 75 in his final round for a three-round total of 233. Junior Kevin Ward (Leawood, Kan.) finished with a total of 235 and tied for 80th place, after he shot an 83 in his final round. Freshman Tyler Docking (Olathe, Kan.) tied for 114th place after he shot a final round 83 for a three-round total of 243.

“Overall, it was an up-and-down year for us,” Randall said. “We had some high spots during the year. We would have liked to finish better than what we did. It kind of leaves a bad taste in our mouths to finish the season poorly.”

Kansas, with its finish of 16th, was not granted a berth in the 2004 NCAA Finals. Entering next season, the Jayhawks will lose only one player, senior Tyler Hall, from a team that won three tournaments during the 2003-04 season.
