Aug. 19, 2004

MAMARONECK, NY – University of Kansas golfer Tyler Docking fell in the round of 16 on Thursday, August 19, at the 2004 U.S. Amateur at Winged Foot in Mamaroneck, N.Y.

Docking, who was ranked 21st in the tournament, lost to No. 5 Andy Svoboda who was the four-time club champion at Winged Foot. The Overland Park, Kan., native fell behind early dropping four of the first six holes. Docking rallied back to within one hole after a birdie on the 11th. That was as close as he got, falling 3 and 2.

“We are very proud of him,” Kansas head coach Ross Randall said. “He played very well today and I think this will give him a lot of confidence going into this season.”

Docking will return to Lawrence and begin practicing with the golf team for their first tournament on Sept. 11 at The Ridges Intercollegiate.
