Rowing Victorious at Knecht Cup

Camden, N.J. – The University of Kansas rowing team earned two gold medals on the final day of competition at the 2004 Knecht Cup. With a time of 7:25.7, the 2nd Varsity 8 took first as did the 1st Novice 8 crew, with a time of 7:22.6. With the victory, the 1st Novice 8 boat continues on its very successful season, as that particular boat has not lost a race this spring.
In other Grand Final action, the two Varsity 4 boats from Kansas notched second and fourth place, while the Novice 4 earned fourth with a time of 8:26.3. The ‘Hawks 1st Varsity 8 boat earned a first place finish in the Petite Finals with a time of 7:09.0.
To earn a spot in the finals, the team had to first make it through qualifying and semi-final rounds on Saturday. Each Sunday race had a field of six boats.
“As I team, I thought we had an amazing weekend,” assistant coach Jennifer Myers said. “We have tried to continue to improve each week and this race was no exception. There was a lot of tough competition, but we raced very well the entire weekend.”
The Jayhawks return to competition on April 24, as they travel to St. Paul, Minn. for a regatta against Minnesota and SMU.
