Jayhawks Open 2004 Season With First Practice

Aug. 24, 2004

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The 2004 University of Kansas football season is officially underway. The Jayhawks held their first team practice of the season Saturday afternoon under near-perfect weather conditions at the practice fields on south campus. More than 100 players took part in the activities, under the watchful eye of third-year head coach Mark Mangino and his staff.

“We got started on the right foot today,” said Mangino. “The kids showed lots of intensity and enthusiasm in every drill. There was definitely a lot of learning taking place.”

The public will get its first chance to see the Jayhawks in action when the team holds an open practice at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 9.

KU will play its first game of the season on Sept. 4 when the team hosts Tulsa. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. (8/9/04)
