Rowing Advances At South-Central Regionals

Oak Ridge, Tenn. – The University of Kansas rowing team completed its first day of competition on Saturday at the South-Central Regionals in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Continuing its successful spring season, KU’s 1st Novice 8 boat won its semifinal race with a time of 7:23.1, after earning first in the opening heat. The victory gives the boat a position in Sunday’s 1st Novice 8 A Final.

The Jayhawks entered one boat in four events — 1st Novice 8, Varsity 4 and 1st and 2nd Varsity 8 races. The ‘Hawks 1st Varsity 8 boat finished the day with a time of 7:12.3, good for sixth place in its semifinal round ensuring the boat a spot in tomorrow’s 1sr Varsity 8 B Final.

Kansas’ 2nd Varsity 8 boat took home first place in its C/D semifinal race with a time of 7:28.6, which gives the boat a spot in the 2nd Varsity 8 C Final on Sunday. The Kansas Varsity 4 boat finished in sixth place in the events’ opening heat with a time of 8:36.5, earning the boat a spot in Sunday’s Varsity 4 C Final race.

The South and Central regions are made up of 29 teams, including eight of the top 20 Division One rowing programs. The ‘Hawks conclude the South-Central Regionals on Sunday, which will mark the end of the spring season.
