KU Announces Football Promotions

Aug. 24, 2004

LAWRENCE, Kan. – An Armed Forces Day, the Richard Petty Driving experience and the telecast of a men’s basketball exhibition game headline a season-long list of promotions during 2004 University of Kansas home football games, KU athletics officials announced Tuesday.

The promotions kick off on opening day, Saturday, September 4, when KU football fans will have an exclusive opportunity to see the KU men’s basketball team in action — in bigger-than-life fashion. KU will show the basketball team’s first exhibition game against the University of British Columbia live from Canada on the video board at KU’s Memorial Stadium, hours before the football Jayhawks’ season-opener vs. the University of Tulsa. The telecast will not air anywhere but the stadium.

The basketball game will tip off at 2 p.m. Central time. Memorial Stadium gates will open at 1:30 p.m. Anyone with a ticket to the football game will be admitted to the stadium. After the game, fans may leave the stadium, tailgate, and then return for the 6 p.m. kickoff of the football game. Single-game tickets for the KU-Tulsa game are available at the Allen Fieldhouse ticket office, on-line at www.kuathletics.com or by calling 1-785-864-3141. Fans are encouraged to obtain tickets in advance.

KU has designated the September 11 game vs. Toledo as Armed Forces Appreciation Day. Members of the armed forces and veterans may purchase $10 tickets for themselves and their families. The day will be highlighted by a flyover by the United States Air Force.

“These promotions are a way to thank our great football fans for their loyalty,” KU Athletics Director Lew Perkins said. “This is a great example of how our teams work together for the benefit of our fans.”

“We’re working extremely hard to put a winning football team on the field,” KU Head Football Coach Mark Mangino said. “We’ve got a terrific home schedule and these promotions are a way to give our fans even more value, and a way for us to show our appreciation for all they mean to us.”
