James McClinton Named To Lombardi Watch List

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Kansas defensive tackle James McClinton has been named to the 38th annual Rotary Lombardi Award Watch list that was announced on Friday. Individuals on the 103-player list will be vying for the honor which recognizes the top lineman in college football.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

McClinton, a senior from Garland, Texas, is a preseason All-Big 12 First Team selection after earning All-Big 12 Second Team and Honorable Mention honors in 2006.

McClinton recorded 51 tackles last season to rank fourth on the team. He finished third in the Big 12 and 34th in the NCAA with 14.5 tackles for loss. Among his tackles for loss were six sacks.

The 6-1, 285-pounder has started 23 games in the last two seasons. He enters 2007 with 79 career tackles, including 18 tackles for loss.

McClinton is one of four team captains for the Jayhawks, who open the season hosting Central Michigan on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m.

The award will be presented in Houston on December 5 at the Hilton Americas Hotel.
