KU Volleyball Opens Season Saturday With Exhibition

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The 2004 University of Kansas volleyball team opens another exciting home schedule Saturday with an exhibition match against KU Alumni at 7 p.m. The Jayhawks, who are coming off their best season in program history, will host 15 home matches at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center this year.

Kansas returns 10 letterwinners and five starters from the 2003 squad that went 22-11 overall and made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Ray Bechard and the Jayhawks also boast three All-Big 12 Preseason selections in junior middle blocker Josi Lima (First-Team), junior transfer Paula Caten (Newcomer of the Year) and opposite hitter Emily Brown (Freshman of the Year).

Match promotions for the 2004 volleyball season include KU giveaways such as T-shirts, pom poms, rally towels and vanity license plates, as well as other prizes and contests during the event. The regular season will close on Nov. 27 on Senior Night as KU bids farewell to Ashley Bechard, Jill Dorsey, Ashley Michaels and Lindsey Morris in their last appearance at Horejsi.
