Gault earns two more preseason honors

Aug. 25, 2006

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

University of Kansas senior Holly Gault was named to two preseason national teams this week. The 5-foot-6 forward earned a spot on Soccer America magazine’s preseason All-America list as well as a place on the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy watch list.

Gault, who was also named a preseason All-Big 12 selection last week, was an all-region selection by two different publications and a first team all-conference pick last year. As a defender, Gault tied for second on the team with 14 points (4 goals, 6 assists), leading the Jayhawks to an 11-7-2 record.

The M.A.C.’s Hermann Trophy is awarded to the most outstanding Division I women’s soccer player each year. The winner will be determined in voting by NSCAA member coaches. Gault is one of 25 athletes on the preseason watch list. The list will be whittled down to 15 semifinalists in early November, with three finalists announced at the end of the month.

Soccer America is one of the most widely respected publications of the sport in the United States. Each season, the magazine selects an All-America as well as weekly teams of the week in Division I women’s soccer.

Gault and the Jayhawks will open their 2006 season tonight against Furman at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex at 5 p.m.
