Aug. 25, 2006

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Governor Kathleen Sebelius has proclaimed September 1, 2006, “College Colors Day” throughout the State of Kansas, and is encouraging fans to celebrate by wearing their college colors.

College Colors Day coincides with both “back to school” and the kick-off of intercollegiate athletics, including football, on college and university campuses across the State of Kansas.

“College Colors Day seeks to celebrate and promote the traditions and spirit that make the college experience so memorable,” Governor Sebelius said, “by encouraging fans, alumni and students to wear the colors or logos of their favorite college throughout the day.”

College Colors Day, created by The Collegiate Licensing Company and its consortium of colleges and universities, promotes higher education in Kansas through increased public awareness, and celebrates the achievements of colleges and universities in the state, acknowledging their critical and fundamental importance in Kansas.

“We are honored Governor Sebelius has issued a proclamation declaring September 1, 2006, College Colors Day,” said Pat Battle, president and CEO of The Collegiate Licensing Company. “We hope College Colors Day is the beginning of a lasting and fun tradition for the citizens of the State of Kansas.”
