Smith Adds Volunteer Assistant to KU Softball Program

Aug. 25, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Megan Smith, head softball coach at the University of Kansas, has added a volunteer assistant coach to her staff in Alycia Bachkora.

Bachkora will have multiple responsibilities with the Jayhawk softball team but will work primarily on hitting and with the team’s infielders.

Bachkora, an Overland Park, Kan., native, graduated from Bradley University in May 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in cell and molecular biology and a minor in psychology. Following graduation she was an assistant coach for the Wichita Mustangs softball club.

An All-Missouri Valley Second Team selection, Bachkora was a four-year letterwinner for the Braves’ softball team and was named to the MVC’s all-tournament team in 2009. Bachkora also became Bradley’s single-season home run record holder and career home run record holder, while being named the school’s offensive player of the year and 4-D award winner her senior year.

“We are so excited to welcome Alycia to the Jayhawk softball program,” said Smith. “Her experiences as an all-conference performer at Bradley and as an assistant coach for one of the premier summer teams in Kansas make her a great addition to our staff. She epitomizes the term student-athlete and will be a great role model for our players.”
