EDMOND, Okla. – Former University of Kansas golfer Chris Thompson lost a two-way playoff Sunday after tying Matt VanCleave for first place at the Oklahoma Open at Oak Tree Country Club East Course in Edmond, Okla.

VanCleave, of Gilbert, Ariz., beat Thompson with a par on the third extra hole. Thompson was leading by two strokes with three holes to play, but double-bogeyed the par-four 16th to fall into the tie.

Thompson was a member of the Jayhawks’ 1999 team that won the Big 12 Championship, earning the squad a berth in the NCAA Championship. In early June he won an Adams Tour event – the Northwest Arkansas Open in Rogers, Arkansas – with a 17-under 271. He followed that up with a third-place finish at the Colbert Charity Classic in Manhattan, Kan.
