Docking Qualifies For U.S. Amateur

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

University of Kansas golfer Tyler Docking tied for medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur Sectional Qualifying at Milburn Golf and Country Club on July 26.

Docking, who will be a sophomore this season, sat in sixth place after shooting an even par 72 in the first round. The Overland Park, Kan. native came out firing the next day shooting three under on the final stretch of holes and posted a four under 68.

“Tyler played very well,” University of Kansas head coach Ross Randall said. “He is certainly good enough to compete at an event such as the Amateur Championship and I think he will go up in the right frame of mind.”

With the win, Docking advances to the 2004 Amateur Championship which will be played from Aug. 16-22 at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y. The Amateur will be the second USGA Championship for Docking.

Additionally, former KU golfer Tyler Hall is tied for the lead after the first round of the prestigious Western Amateur in Benton Harbor, Mich. Hall, who just completed his senior season with the Jayhawks, has already qualified for the Amateur Championship.
