Kansas Women's Golf Take Seventh

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Kansas women’s golf team finished out the spring 2004 season after taking seventh place, in a 15-team field, at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Okla. The Jayhawks shot a overall 934 at the 6,013-yard par 72 Jimmie Austin Golf Course.

Host-school Oklahoma won the tournament with a final score of 900. Southern Methodist placed second after shooting 920. Baylor shot 924 to place in third. Kansas State placed fourth with a final score of 928, and Texas Tech finished fifth with 929.

Sophomore Chelsey Pryor led the Jayhawks tied for a seson-best 10th place after shooting 229. Freshman Amanda Costner tied for 18th witha final score of 232. Freshman Jill Womble shot an even par (72) in the final round to finish with 236 and a tie for 33rd place. Senior Jennifer Bawanan tied for 40th after shooting 240. Sophomores Tiffany Woods and Meredith Winkelmann, competing as an individual, both shot 248 to place in a tie for 58th. Winkelmann’s three-round score of 248 is a career-best. Sophomore Kendall Schwerman, also competing as an individual, tied for 66th place after shooting 250.

The Jayhawks will compete in the Big 12 Championships April 23-25 in College Station, Texas.
