Tennis Heads To Big 12 Tournament

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 9 seed Kansas Jayhawks (6-15 overall, 4-7 Big 12) will take on the No. 8 seed Texas Tech Lady Raiders (11-9 overall, 4-7 Big 12) in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday, April 29 at 10 a.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.

“We are excited to play,” head coach Amy Hall said. “We are ready to show what we can do and hopefully make a run.”

The Jayhawks are coming off an 0-2 weekend with losses to Texas A&M and Big 12 regular season champion Texas. The ‘Hawks fell 7-0 to the Aggies and managed only one victory on the day when seniors Courtney and Kristen Steinbock defeated Roland/Walker 8-2. Kansas then headed to San Antonio for a dual against the Longhorns. Texas took the doubles point and were able to capture three singles victories for the 4-1 win. KU’s lone point came from K. Steinbock as she defeated Kendra Strohm 6-4, 6-0.

Texas Tech is coming off of a 7-0 loss to Texas on Saturday, April 24.

The Crimson and Blue will be looking to avenge a 6-1 loss they suffered to Tech back on March 14. The Jayhawks lead the all-time series, 8-4.

The winner of the dual will take on No. 1 seeded Texas on Friday at 9 a.m.
