Men's Golf 18th At NCAA Central Regional

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 25 University of Kansas men’s golf team is in 18th place, in a 27-team field, after two rounds of the 2004 NCAA Central Regional in West Lafayette, Ind. Kansas opened the three-day tournament with a first round total of 315 on Thursday, then followed with a second round score of 300 on Friday, for a two-round total of 615 on the 7,259 yard, par-72 Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

“The team played better today,” head coach Ross Randall said. “We moved up considerably, but we are still pretty far out of contention.”

Kentucky leads all teams through two rounds with a 557 total. Oklahoma State is in second with a 585 two-round total, followed by Texas in third with a two-round total of 594.

Junior Kevin Ward (Leawood, Kan.) is tied for 42nd after he carded a second round 75 for two-round total of 152. Junior Andrew Price (Lake Forest, Ill.) shot a 75 in his second round for a total of 154 to place in a tie for 62nd. Freshman Gary Woodland (Berryton, Kan.) is tied for 70th place after carding a two-round 155 total. Senior Tyler Hall (Wayne, N.J.) shares 92nd place after playing the first two rounds to a total of 158. Freshman Tyler Docking (Olathe, Kan.) is tied for 105th place after rounds of 86 and 74 for a total of 160.

“We have a formidable task ahead of us tomorrow, so hopefully we can play our best,” Randall added.

Kansas will finish tournament action Saturday, May 22, in the third round of the 2004 NCAA Central Regional. Tee-times are set for 7:12 a.m.
