Kansas Forward Cressy Honored By Soccer Buzz

Aug. 28, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas freshman Emily Cressy has been named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Feet Team of the Week. The Soccer Buzz Team of the Week is put together each week by the editors of the national magazine and encompasses nearly 5,000 Division I student-athletes.

Cressy, a redshirt freshman from Ventura, Calif., scored a goal and added an assist in KU’s 3-0 win over then-No. 20 Purdue on Aug. 22. She became the first Jayhawk in seven years to record multiple points in her first collegiate match. Earlier this week, she was selected the Big 12’s Newcomer of the Week.

She was one of only three freshman selected to the team, joining Michigan State forward Laura Heyboer and Duke defender Ashley Rape.

Cressy is the first KU player to earn the honor since Colleen Quinn was selected to the Elite Team of the Week on Oct. 24 of last season.

The 25th-ranked Jayhawks (1-0) will take on Auburn at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex Sunday at 1 p.m.
