Football Opener Packed With Extras

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Fans attending this weekend’s Kansas football opener against Tulsa will be treated to a KU double-dip. In addition to the football game, the Kansas men’s basketball Canadian tour contest against the University of British Columbia will be broadcast on the Memorial Stadium video board prior to kick-off.
The main event, Kansas vs. Tulsa will begin at 6 p.m.(central), but the gates will open at 1 p.m. with the tip-off of the basketball game at 2 p.m. Fans that want to watch the Jayhawks basketball team on the video board will need a football ticket to get in. At the conclusion of the basketball game, fans will be allowed to return to the stadium parking lots for tailgating, but will need to get their hands stamped on the way out. To get back into Memorial Stadium for the football game, fans must present a stamped hand as well as a ticket stub for the game.
In addition to basketball and football, fans will also have a chance to take part in the Hy-Vee Fun Zone that will feature inflatable games and a new food court where fans can sample a variety of foods from different vendors. The Hy-Vee Fun Zone will be located on the Southeast side of the stadium by the old tennis courts. Other activities for the opener include the Jayhawk weather balloon on Campanill hill and a United Way change drive at most of the Memorial Stadium gates.
