Kansas Soccer Blanks BYU

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomore Holly Gault scored a first half goal and Meghan Miller collected her second consecutive shutout as Kansas soccer defeated BYU 1-0 on Monday in Provo, Utah. The Jayhawks move to to 1-0 overall to begin the season for the fourth time in school history.

Kansas (2-0) got on the board in the game’s 29th minute when Gault slipped in from her defensive position and converted on a pass from sophomore midfielder Nicole Cauzillo to give the Jayhawks a 1-0 lead. The goal was the only support that Miller needed, as she made three saves in route to her school-record 21st career shutout.

“BYU played on Friday night so they had an extra day of rest and we had to make that adjustment, as well as to the altitude, so it took a total team effort to pull out the win today,” head coach Mark Francis said. “We had to use a lot of people off the bench in the second half, so our depth really helped us. This has been a great road trip, with us being able to go on the road and beat two quality teams.”

Next weekend, Kansas soccer will take the field at home for the first time this season as they host the KUStore.com Crimson & Blue Invitational at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. KU will square off against Wisconsin-
Milwaukee at 5 p.m. on Friday and round out the tournament playing St. Louis on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. In addition, to the two games the Jayhawks play, St. Louis and Mississippi will square off on Friday at 2:30 p.m., while on Sunday, Mississippi State and Wisconsin-Milwaukee will battle at 12 p.m.
