Jackson Named Lady Vol Invite MVP, Three Named to All-Tourney Team

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. –

Junior defender Lauren Jackson has been named the Most Valuable Player of the 2009 Lady Vol Invite, while Jackson and teammates Emily Cressy and Monica Dolinsky were named to the all-tournament team Sunday.

Jackson, a junior defender from Long Beach, Calif., helped lead the Jayhawks to a pair of victories over the weekend, and led a defensive unit which allowed just one goal in 180 minutes of action.

Along with being named Tournament MVP, Jackson was also tabbed Most Valuable Defensive Player of the Tournament.

Cressy, a redshirt sophomore from Ventura, Calif., was named the tournament’s most valuable offensive player, scoring the game-winning goal in Friday’s victory over Pepperdine and also grabbed an assist on KU’s first goal. Dolinsky was selected to the Lady Vol Invite’s All-Tournament team after collecting an assist on Friday and recording five shots in Sunday’s win over Arizona State.

Kansas defeated Pepperdine (2-1) and Arizona State (1-0) to earn the Lady Vol Invite tournament championship.

The Jayhawks (3-0) will host Long Beach State Friday in the team’s first home match this season Friday at 5 p.m.
