Miller Named Big 12 Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas senior goalkeeper Meghan Miller was announced as the Big 12 Soccer Defensive Player of the week on Tuesday after posting shutout wins in the Jayhawks’ first two games. Miller has helped led Kansas to a 2-0 start for only the fourth time in school history.

In KU’s season opening match Friday, Miller made four saves, including three in the second half, to lead the Jayhawks to a 2-0 win over UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Seattle, Wash., native, continued her strong play in KU’s second game as she made three saves in a 1-0 road victory over BYU. Miller is KU’s all-time leader in shutouts with 21 career whitewashes, as well as being the school record holder for shutouts in a season (11) and goals-against-average in a season (0.75) in 2003.

Next weekend, Kansas soccer will take the field at home for the first time this season as they host the KUStore.com Crimson& Blue Invitational at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. KU will square off against Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 5 p.m. on Fridayand round out the tournament playing St. Louis on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

In addition to KU’s two games, St. Louis and Mississippi will square off on Friday at 2:30 p.m., while on Sunday, Mississippi State and Wisconsin-Milwaukee will battle at 12 p.m.
