Postgame Quotes

No. 25 Kansas 2, Auburn 1

Aug. 31, 2008

Head Coach Mark Francis

On the teams overall performance:

“We did not play very well today; we got lucky to be honest. You have to give Auburn credit, they played on Friday and we didn’t. And we ended up looking like the team that played on Friday. They deserved to win the game they had better opportunities, and controlled the tempo. Other than scoring two good goals, I don’t think that we did too much right today.”

On the intensity of the game:

“I thought that we battled okay, but the quality of what we did was not good.”

On playing poorly but getting the win:

“I told the players that the good thing is that we won. Last year we would have found a way to lose that game. This season we played a good team, we played (poorly) and we still won. So as a coach you still have to think that we are doing something right and finding a way to win the game. I told our players that we have to demand the quality of our play and we have to demand more out of ourselves than what we gave today.”

On the play of Emily Cressy:

“Emily is a goal-scorer, I don’t think that anyone else on the team could have finished that shot the way she did out there. That’s something that we did not have last year and is important in a game like this.”
