Spirit Squad Snags Camp Awards

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The KU Spirit Squad brought home numerous awards from the UCA/UDA cheer and dance camp, which team members attended August 4-8 in Milwaukee, Wis. Kansas’ squad attended the camp along with 2,200 other cheerleaders, dancers and mascots from around the nation.

Both the cheer squad and Rock Chalk Dancers received the Leadership Award. This award is voted on by the campers and is presented to the team that showed unity, leadership and good work ethic. This award also represented which team other camp attendees would most like to be a part of.

The cheer squad was awarded first place in the category of sideline chants and second place overall in cheer. KU’s cheerleaders also won the Game Planning Award.

The Rock Chalk Dancers received the Blue Ribbon for home routine and traditional fight song along with the award for Outstanding Program.

KU’s mascot team placed fifth out of 30 total mascots and also garnered the Traditions Award.
