Jayhawks Announce Future Non-Conference Opponents
Aug. 31, 2012
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football will play non-conference games against nine different schools from seven different conferences over the next six years as the schools announced several future meetings on Friday.
The Jayhawks will play home games against Southeast Missouri (2014), Central Michigan (2014, 2017), Memphis (2015), Ohio (2016) and Rutgers (2018) in the coming years. KU will also face Duke (2014), Rutgers (2015), Memphis (2016), Ohio (2017) and Central Michigan (2018) on the road.
The Jayhawks defeated Central Michigan in the only previous meeting between the schools, 52-7, in the 2007 season opener. The Chippewas have won the Mid-American Conference three times since 2006. KU is 8-5 all-time against schools from the MAC and will play at Northern Illinois on Sept. 22 of this season.
The 2014 season opener will mark KU’s first-ever meeting against SEMO, a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. KU is 2-0 all-time against the OVC, most recently defeating Jacksonville State in 2003. SEMO head coach Tony Samuel is in his seventh season at the school.
KU will face Memphis in 2015 in the first of a home-and-home with the Tigers. The game will mark the first meeting between the schools on the football field. The Jayhawks are 18-10 all-time against Conference USA members and will host Rice on Sept. 8 of this season.
The Jayhawks will also kick off a home-and-home series with Ohio, beginning in 2016 in Lawrence. The Bobcats won the only previous meeting between the schools, 30-15, in 1967 in Coach Pepper Rodgers’ first year at KU. Ohio head coach Frank Solich is in his eighth-year with the Bobcats after serving as head coach at Nebraska for five years. Solich led the Bobcats to their first bowl victory in 2011 and has won 50 games since the 2006 season.
The future non-conference games are in addition to the home-and-home series with Rutgers (2015, 2018) that the team announced earlier this month. The third non-conference games for the 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 seasons will be released at a later date.
Kansas will open the 2012 season against South Dakota State Saturday at 6 p.m. Fans that can’t make it to Memorial Stadium can watch the game on the Jayhawk Network or online on AT&T Jayhawk All-Access.
