Kansas Relief Pitcher Kahana Named Hawaii League Top-5 Prospect

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas sophomore relief pitcher Robert Kahana has been named a top prospect in the Hawaii Collegiate League by two different publications. Kahana is listed as the No. 2 prospect in the league by Perfect Game USA and the No. 4 prospect by Baseball America. Both publications released their lists of the top players in each summer league on Friday.
Kahana, a 6-foot-1 right-handed pitcher from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, pitched for the Oahu Paddlers in the Hawaii Collegiate League this summer and posted a 2-0 record with a 2.00 ERA in 27 innings. The sophomore righty fanned 22 hitters and held opponents to a .212 batting average in his seven games.
In his first year at KU, Kahana posted a 3-1 record with a 3.33 ERA in 67 2/3 innings on the mound. He allowed 32 walks and struck out 47 in 28 appearances, which included 24 out of the bullpen. Kahana held opponents to a .241 batting average and allowed just one home run.
The sophomore righty was selected in the 47th round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies, but opted to come to KU for his collegiate career. He will be eligible to re-enter the draft in 2014.
