“We have been involved with the program since its inception and we always do our best in promoting the event because of how great the cause is and because Dan (Rooney) is a great guy and he is a KU guy,” said Lawrence Country Club head golf professional Jon Zylstra. “Last year, we were one of the top money raisers in our district and we are going to do our best to do our part once again.”

Major Rooney’s innovative idea to support the families’ of wounded and fallen soldiers has helped raise over $2.5 million since the program’s inception. Rooney, when not on active duty, serves as a golf professional at Grand Haven Golf Club in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Rooney played for former head coach Ross Randall at Kansas from 1992-96. While at KU, Rooney competed against Tiger Woods, while Woods was at Stanford, and beat Woods in competition on three different occasions.
