Sept. 1, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Head coach Megan Smith announced that freshman Marisa Malazzo will round out the 2011 Kansas softball roster.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Malazzo was a four-year letterwinner in softball for Coppell High School. The infielder helped the Cowgirls to three-straight bi-district championships from 2008-10 and also played in the state semi-finals in 2008. Malazzo was selected first team all-district in 2008 and 2010 and earned second team accolades as a junior. She was also chosen as her school’s Cowgirl of the Year as a sophomore and again in her senior year. A participant in the District 5A all-star game, Malazzo played for the American Freedom 18U Gold club team.

“We are really excited that Marisa is a part of our Jayhawk family,” said second year head coach Megan Smith. “Mo (Marisa) is an extremely athletic and versatile player who plays with grit and determination.”

Malazzo joins fellow newcomers Kristin Martinez (Texas City, Texas), Kendra Cullum (Conroe, Texas), Colleen Hohman (Naperville, Ill.), Elsa Moyer (Kirkland, Wash.), Ashley Newman (Salina, Kan.), Ashley Spencer (Arkansas City, Kan.) and Laura Vickers (Olathe, Kan.) for the 2010-11 season.
